Making an impact with Climate Change research

22 February 2024

Last year we concluded the Impact Series with an exhilarating showcase of groundbreaking projects. The final session saw participants share their innovative ideas and strategies for development, culminating in the recognition of Alireza Eftekhari as the standout contributor.

Alireza Eftekhari, a Ph.D. student under the guidance of Dr. Stephen Nash at the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Galway, was awarded the distinction of having the most promising project by a distinguished panel of judges. His research centers around tidal energy and its susceptibility to the effects of climate change. The research focuses on a critical and pressing concern known as “A Nation Without Water.” Specifically, he aimed to delve into the issue of water bankruptcy in Iran, exploring its underlying causes, challenges, and the profound impact of anthropogenic activities and climate change.

Through rigorous statistical analysis and advanced modeling techniques, Alireza hopes to not only shed light on this issue but also work towards finding viable solutions. The thesis promises to make a significant contribution to our understanding of this complex problem and pave the way for positive change in addressing it.

The Impact Series serves as a platform for visionaries like Alireza to showcase their transformative ideas. We believe in the power of innovation to create positive change, and Alireza's work is a shining example of the impact that can be achieved through collaboration and forward-thinking research.

The Horizon Europe-funded INNOV-8-2-CREATE project underscores the universities commitment to fostering innovation and creating a supportive environment for cutting-edge research. The Impact Series, a key component of this initiative, provides a unique opportunity for participants to bring their ideas to the forefront and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and technology.

Alireza Eftekhari's recognition is not only a personal achievement but also a celebration of the project’s dedication to nurturing talent and driving impactful research. As more participants join the Impact Series this year, we are looking forward to supporting and showcasing more innovative projects that will emerge.
